WHAT IS UNDER THAT WIG?

Image
Everywhere you turn these days you find all kinds of wigs being displayed. A lot of ladies are now embracing the use if these pieces for convenience and of course due to the fact that it is fashionable and flexible in the since that you are at liberty to change into any style you want at any point in time. Wigs are supposed to be won on healthy hair, but sadly, many women tend to cover their hair problems with wigs. When most women notice an unhealthy hair condition, the usual thing is to self medicate. Every one around them suddenly becomes a hair doctor. The worst is if the salon they decide to go to is not being operated by a professional hair stylist, when a quark handles an already bad hair the situation could get worse and can even lead to very serious hair loss. This is why every salon owner needs to sign up   to get adequate training so as to be prepared, or adequately equipped for times like these. Then comes product junking from home remedies to chem...

RUNNING A SUCESSFUL SALON BUSINESS

Image
Starting a Salon business whether it be barbering, spa, nail, weavon, makeup or Hair is always a venture most people are not prepared for psychologically. I don't know how we got to the point of assuming its a no-brainer. A mistake I also made 13 years ago. You see when you have an 8 (or 7 in the case of bankers or some parastatals) to -6 job , have a passion or just a stay at home mum who wants to start a business; The need for a backup plan or extra income makes us look for businesses that appear to be low risk and can be managed with little supervision or no experience. As much as this is the right step, we have erroneously put Salon business as such and this has led to the frustration and closing of   many businesses in the industry. Here are some guidelines to running a successful Salon business. 1. A salon business is first a "business". So it requires more than getting a space, furnishing and buying equipments. You have to first remove that idea from y...

When it comes opening a Salon business, most people tend to conceive it in their minds and they plan with either what they have seen or observed from other places or by trying to fill in an area where they feel there is a need. Don't think this does not concern you, if you have a hairdressing, Barbering, spa, makeup , Wig and weavon business or you have bulked all or some to form your unisex or general salon; you need to grab a seat to read this post.   It is important for every salon business owner or anybody intending to start up one to first of all know the right questions to ask, classes to take, how to employ for their type of business, before you talk about money to rent a space or equipment. There seems to be a major misconception about starting a salon business. We assume its as easy as getting a place, hiring skilled hands, "tushing" up the salon and tadaaah! people start trouping in.   I can imagine the number of people who are nodding in affirmatio...

So the question is, how have you decided to run your business?           You need to be deliberate in every decision you make concerning your business. Have you ever wondered about where your business will be in a few years from now? Keeping old customers or getting new ones

Image
(The power of old clients and the expansion of new clients) As a business owner, you understand that customers are indeed kings. Old clients ensure that your bottom line remains. Meaning that you need their repeat buy to be in business, while the new customers help you with expansion. If I were to take this decision, I would rather keep my old clients, because the old clients are going to become your ambassadors, your free marketers and they will always bring plus one. Having the old market and your old customers satisfied is your priority. For someone who runs a salon business, that is , barbering, nail, weavon sales or the spa, etc. Your focus should be on how to treat your old customers better and how to give them an experience that will make them come back. Not just coming back, but an experience that will make the m bring someone else.   In putting all of this together, that is where we talk about the salon 360 course . The salon 360 course no...

CAN BLOW DRYING DAMAGE THE HAIR? - FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Image
This has always been a controversial topic especially for people with virgin hair that have a no-heat policy because of "thermal damage"  who have recently realized that they still need to use a blow dryer every now and again. Their fears are founded but the fact that they may have missed is that blow dryers DO NOT cause damage but the person behind the dryer. Blow dryers are like guns; in the hands of a professional it delivers maximum results, but the opposite is the case in the hands of an amateur. Here are some questions that we should be able to answer if we must use blow dryers as stylists. How are you supposed to hold a blow dryer? What angle do you point it away or on the client? Where do you apply the heat? How do you use the regulator? (using the cool and hot air to achieve the perfect finish?) What is the ratio of cool to hot air when blow drying? What direction do you brush to close the cuticles? Ahhhh!!! Are you for real?” yo...
